Why does fireclay deteriorate over time?

Due to the large proportion of mineral substances, fireclay also has a small disadvantage:

It is relatively brittle.

These are the first signs of wear and tear on the material, but not yet a reason to replace it.

It is highly heat-resistant and has excellent heat storage properties, making it ideal for fireplace and stove construction.
